Name: Iola Novak Date: December 28th, 1915 - April 21st, 2009 Obituary: Iola Harrris-Novak, age 93, went home to be with the Lord on April 21, 2009. She was born in Laona on December 28, 1915 the daughter of the late Elmer and Anna (Deau) Harris. Iola was raised in Laona where she met the love of her life John Novak, they were married on October 31, 1936, and spent 72 years wonderful years together. She raised six children and worked along side her husband, shoveling coal, moving houses, driving truck, hauling concrete blocks and still had a hot meal on the table. She enjoyed cleaning and cooking and playing cards with the family. She acquired Alzheimer’s, in 1996 at which time she went to the nursing home where she resided until the time of her death. She follows her husband after his death of only two months. She also joins her daughter, Delores Nuskiewicz and two sons, John and Norbert; parents, Elmer & Ann Harris; brother, Kenneth; and four sisters, Percy, Verial, Carol and Gertrude. She will be missed but not forgotten. She is survived by her sister, Alice Kaatz, Goldendale,WA; son-in-law, John Nuskiewicz, Rhinelander; four of their children and eleven grandchildren; daughter, Shirley Novak, New Berlin; son & daughter-in-law, John & Marlene Novak, Laona; their four children, twelve grandchildren & three great grandchildren; son, Robert Novak, DePere, and his two children; daughter & son-in-law, Kay & Joe “Butch” Krawze, Laona & their seven children, seventeen grandchildren & one great grandchild; daughter & son-in-law, Carol & Dennis Lempel, Laona and their child and three grandchildren. Visitation was held on Monday, April 27 from 10-11 a.m. at St. Leonard Catholic Church, Laona. Memorial mass followed at 11:00 a.m. with Father John Cerkas officiating. Inurnment was at the Laona Cemetery. A special thank you to the staff at the Crandon Nursing Home for the lovely, wonderful care of our mother and, “grandma”.
