Obituary:
Robert M. Kolbe, age 97, of Laona died at Nu-Roc Community HealthCare, on Friday, July 10th. He was born to Otto and Marion Kolbe on January 28, 1912, in Long Prairie, Minnesota. His family later moved to Minneapolis where he spent his formative years.

He was a graduate of the University of Minnesota, where he earned a degree in forestry and first came to northern Wisconsin to work in the CCC camp in Blackwell in the 1930s and later the U.S. Forest Service.

After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, he joined the U.S. Navy and served in photo intelligence and surveillance in the Pacific. When the war ended, he returned to Forest County to work with the Connor Lumber and Land Company of Laona as a forester. He was married to the former Pauline Monson, a teacher whom he met in Laona, and who preceded him in death in April.

He was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church in Laona and for many years, served as a director of the Laona State Bank.

He is survived by daughter Patricia (Brantley) of Indianapolis, Indiana; son John (Judy) and granddaughter Madeleine, of Milwaukee; nephew, James Pontius of Appleton, and niece, Barbara Pontius of Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Visitation will be at St. John Lutheran Church in Laona from 9:30 to11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18th, with a service to follow. Burial in the Laona Cemetery, Pastor Sheldon Kerstner officiating.
