Obituary:
James Robert "Jim" Harrison, 97, of Wabeno, left this earth, which he deeply loved, on Saturday August 15, 2009. Jim was born on October 23, 1911, the seventh child of Clayton C. and Flora W. (Sherburne) Harrison, on his family's ?Happy Hill Farm? in Ringwood, (McHenry County) Illinois.

He married his loving wife, life's companion, and best friend of 67 years, Alice M. Kopecky at her family's (Oak Wood Dairy Farm) in Wabeno, on April 11, 1942.

Jim is survived by his wife Alice, their seven sons, Michael (Beverly), Lexington, KY; Robert, Craig, CO; Steven, Santa Fe, NM; Terence (Betty), Thornton, CO; Daniel, New York City, NY; Alan "Boo" (Diane), Wabeno; and Patrick (Dale), Wabeno. He is further survived by two granddaughters, Theresa and Cecelia; seven grandsons, Michael (Candy), James, Eric, Paul, Clayton, Andrew and Colby; three great grandchildren, Ryan, Nolan and Ava, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister-in-laws, Myrna (Robert) Kopecky of Blackwell, WI, Renee (Frank) Kopecky (Hank) Warnecke, Bellevue, IA and good friend Greg Tallier.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and brother-in-laws, Margaret (Milford "Pooch") Smith, Florence (Vern) Malsch , Mary (Ardin) Frisbie, Susan (Louis) Schuerer and Ella (James Stanley) Thomas; two brothers and sister-in-law, William (Edna) and Richard; sister and brother-in-laws, Lillian (Lee) Clark, and Helen (Harold) Pichotta, Robert, Harvey (Irene), and Frank Kopecky; a niece, Marjory Harrison Himert and nephews, James Clark, David Pichotta, Howard Kopecky, Frank and David Frisbie and Jack Schuerer.

Jim answered the call of his country in WWII, serving in both the European and Pacific Theaters from 1943 to 1946. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, American Theater, European Theater and Pacific Theater Service Medals and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was a Past Commander and member of Sylvan Post 44 of the American Legion and a life member of the Laona VFW Post. He served as a member and president of the Wabeno School Board and a member of the Forest County Selective Service Board and the Wabeno Agricultural Society. He was a founding member and past president of Padus-Nicolet Gun Club, the Nicolet Sportsmen's Club, a long time scout leader of the Boy Scout Troop 521, a life member of the National and Wisconsin Trapper's Association and a member of the Northern Lakes Ducks Unlimited.

Jim was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, bird watching, "shanging" and most of all running his trap lines. He is following the snowshoe trail to that great beaver flowage in the sky, in the tracks of his friends, mentors and fellow trappers; Albert, Garth, Walter, Elmer and Russ and his companion dogs; Sleepy, Tanya I and Tanya II.

His garden, in which he took great pride, took him back to his agrarian roots. As a youth he farmed with his father and learned the carpentry trade from his brother-in-law Ardin. He moved to Washington, DC during the Great Depression and worked at the Bureau of Printing and Engraving while attending George Washington University. He was then employed by the Department of Agriculture in New York City until he transferred to Green Bay, WI. After the war, he moved to his wife's hometown of Wabeno where he was a carpenter and cabinet maker and later became an instructor and counselor at the Blackwell Job Corps Center.

A gathering time for family and friends will be at the Suminski Weber Hill Funeral Home, Wabeno, on Wed, August 19th from 4 to 7 p.m. and Thurs. from 9 to 10 a.m. before the funeral service. The Celebration of Life service will be held at the Funeral Home on Thurs., August 20th at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Dennis Mannering officiating. Burial with Military Honors, provided by the American Legion Post 44 and Laona VFW will be in Wabeno's Forest Hill Cemetery in Wabeno.

The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the Nu-Roc Community Healthcare facility staff for the excellent care and compassion shown to Jim while he was at the Nu-Roc.
