Obituary:
Barney John Hoffman, age 95, of Crandon, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 12, 2009 at the AGI Healthcare Center, Crandon. Barney was born July 14, 1914 in Rothschild, WI the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Bembenek) Hoffman.

On October 11, 1941 he married Doris Bernarde. She preceded him in death on November 14, 2006. Barney entered the U.S. Army in April 1941 serving during WWII as a mechanic in the medical regiment. After receiving a honorable discharge on November 1945, he returned to Crandon. In 1946 Barney began his lifelong career as a mechanic for the Forest County Highway Dept.; from which he retired.

Barney was a people person who enjoyed participating in church activities, and dancing.
He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, animals and making maple syrup. He was a member the rock and gem club & the gun club. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, the VFW and the American Legion. Barney proudly served as a member of the Forest County Veteran Honor Guard honoring other Veterans during their final burial rights.

Cindy Hoffman, Monico

Sons: Jerome Hoffman, Wausau
David (Elizabeth) Hoffman, Sturgeon Bay

Three grandchildren: Matthew (Allison) Hoffman, Melanie (Adam) Johnson and Megan Hoffman

Two great grandchildren: Ashton & Mason Johnson

Brother: Raymond Hoffman, Crandon

Sisters: Josephine Spencer, Antigo
Elmyra (Harold) Kriegel, Antigo

In addition to his wife, Doris he is also preceded in death by his parents, Joseph & Elizabeth; brothers, Henry & Lawrence & sisters, Pauline & Stella

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 14 from 9-11 a.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Crandon. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Eric Vertien officiating. Interment will be at Crandon Lakeside Cemetery. America Legion Post 94 provided military honors.
