Thelma Marie “Neganasnok” Johnson passed away unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, November 28, 2009. She was born in Hayward WI on April 5, 1950 to the late Lucille Brown and Ira Biddell Jr.
She lived in Crandon most of her life and lived in Wausau in the late 1970’s.
Thelma graduated from Crandon High in 1969. She attended N.A.E.S College in Keshena WI in the 1990’s for a Bachelor degree in American Indian Studies.
She was a member on numerous committees: Native American Church, National Indian Education Association, Forest County Potawatomi Health Board, Stone Lake Gospel Chapel, and Stone Lake Indian Education Committee. She also worked for the Potawatomi Tribe as a liaison for the tribe and Crandon School District.
Thelma was well known by everyone in Crandon and surrounding communities.
Thelma enjoyed softball, volleyball, bowling, pool, pow-wows, bingo, casinos, diabetic luncheons, and was a dedicated Packer backer. She attended elderly events, was always at the community events and enjoyed traveling, but most of all she loved her grandchildren “very” much. She also enjoyed singing Native American Church and Gospel songs.
She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Ann Johnson (Johnny), and her son, Johnathon Lee Johnson (Sara). Sisters: Theresa, Georgina, Sue, Patty, Johanna, Sherri, Brenda, Connie, Judy, Lenore, and Morning Star. Brothers, Brian Edwards, Charlie, Glen, Rolin, Andy, Jack, and Isiah. Grandchildren: Dayvina, Autry, Jacob, Elias, Adonis, and Scarlett. Numerous nieces and nephews. Also her best friend Lois Jean Frank. She is preceded in death by three brothers, Donald St. John, Justice Ira Biddell, Tim (Sonny) Edwards. Mother, Lucille Brown, Dad, Ira Biddell, an aunt LaVera (Dolly) Phillps, uncles, D.C. Phillips, Sam Phillips, and Jeff Phillips.
Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 30th from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Cultural Center, Crandon. Service at 11:00 a.m., Tues. Dec. 1st. at the Cultural Center. Mr. Wally Johnson officiating.
