Name: Irene Chartraw Date: September 1st, 1919 - January 5th, 2010 Obituary: Irene Mildred (Meyer) Chartraw died January 5, 2010 at the age of 90. She was born September 1, 1919 in New Richmond, WI to Edward and Ida (Molle) Meyer. At age 16 she graduated Valedictorian of Mellen High School, Class of 1936. She met her future husband, Leonard, while attending Wausau Business College, and they married June 15, 1940. After establishing residence in Crandon, they raised three children, Edward, Thomas and Jean. Irene worked as a bookkeeper for Himes Lumber Co., Crandon Telephone Co. and Crandon Motor Co. until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 61 years and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Irene is survived by her son, Thomas (Christine) Chartraw, daughter, Jean (Estill) Barker, daughter-in-law, Katherine Chartraw, sisters, Adeline Brecke and Vivian (Al) Hanson, grandchildren, Paul (Janet) Chartraw, Jill (Michael) Parker, Lisa (Daniel) Schmit, Corene (Nicholas) Kotsonis, Laura Chartraw-Woldt, Charles (Amy) Chartraw, Tracy (James) Ginter and Marci (David) Franz and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Leonard, son, Edward, infant daughter, Ann, brothers, Wayne and Merlin, sister, Marian, son-in-law, Monte Whitt and great-grandson Charles. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 8, 2010 from 9-10:45 a.m. at the Weber-Hill Funeral Home, Crandon. Funeral mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Crandon with Father Ralph Gillis officiating. Interment will be at Crandon Lakeside Cemetery. Honoring Irene as pallbearers are Ron Abler, Charles Chartraw, James Ginter, David Franz, Nicholas Kotsonis and Daniel Schmit.
