Obituary:
Storm Latimer Carroll
Our beloved father, companion, brother and friend, Storm Latimer Carroll, passed away quietly at his home on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Crandon, Wisconsin in his cherished Wisconsin Northwoods.
Storm was born on May 28, 1947 to Theodore Roosevelt and Edna Caroline (Hammerstrom) Carroll in Duluth, Minnesota. For many years the family lived in and around the Duluth area and Storm started school in the Esko School District. After a move to Wrenshall he attended the Wrenshall schools and graduated from Wrenshall High School in 1965. He was active in sports and played on the football, basketball and track teams. In 1966 he joined the United States Air Force and rose to the rank of Sergeant before his discharge in 1970. Storm was a Vietnam War Veteran.
He married the former Georgia Powers of Wrenshall, Minnesota in 1966 and they adopted a son, Tran Michael, several years later. Georgia Powers Carroll passed away on May 23, 2005.
Storm's life was dedicated to education and to the youth of America. He had a special interest in and repore with troubled youth and in the Native American Youth in both Minnesota and Wisconsin. Wherever a child needed help or advise Storm would be there to help and advise when he was able.
Storm was a good son, father, brother and friend. In his latter years he had faced serious medical problems with tenacity and aways with a sense of humor. Those of us who loved him will miss that crooked half smile, the twinkle in his blue eyes, the wry humor and the crinkles around his eyes that gave away the whole game. He loved to hunt and to fish more than life itself. He was never happier than when he was out on his deer stand or in his waders out in the middle of a stream or in his boat in deeper waters. Storm's work with education did not go unnoticed and he was honored by his students, his staffs, and he worked with community and state organizations too. He served on several boards within the state and was recognized most recently by the State of Wisconsin for his efforts on behalf of education. Storm had a varied career outside of education which included but was not limited to a stint as a bush pilot until his eyes gave out on him and running a small gun repair shop out of his home.
Continued ill health would finally force him to retire but nothing would have kept him from the woods, the streams and the rivers. At his own request these will be his final resting places.
Storm was preceded in death by his parents Ted and Edna Carroll, his former wife, Georgia Powers Carroll, his sisters, Dorothy Barcelona of Duluth, Minnesota, Shirlee Love Aubut of Staley, Minnesota, his brothers Buckley Duane Carroll and sister in-law Linda Lundell Carroll of Duluth, his brother Craig Alan Carroll of Hastings, Minnesota, his brother Leroy Howard Carroll and sister-in-law Mary Ellen of Ohio as well as special Cousin Robert and Emy Lue Ferguson of Westminster, California.
Storm is survived by his son, Tran Michael Carroll of Duluth, Minnesota, his beloved companion, Ruth Schwartz of Crandon and Armstrong Creek, Wisconsin, a sister, Darlin Jean and husband James Krause of Greeley, Colorado; a brother Axel Carroll and wife Barbara of Kearneysville, WV, a brother Addison Carroll and wife Virginia of Aurora, Colorado and a sister-in-law Mrs. Craig (Victoria) Carroll of Hastings, Minnesota. Also left to mourn are numerous nieces and nephews as well as beloved cousins and friends from all over this nation.
