Gladys (Glade) Ison, age 95, passed away on April 4, 2010 at the Crandon Nursing Home where she had resided for the past two years. The eldest daughter of William and Sarah Avis (Wilson) Quesinberry, Glade was born on December 15, 1914 in Elliott County Kentucky. Her family moved to the Crandon area where she met George Garland Ison. Glade and Garland were married on October 21, 1936.
Throughout her life, Glade loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, gardening and just enjoying time with nature. Some of her happiest times were spent traveling with Garland throughout the Pacific Northwest, where they fished the mountain streams of British Columbia. After Garland’s death in 1994, Glade enjoyed spending time with her family and dear friends.
Glade is survived by her three children: Barbara (David) Haakenson of Elk Mound; Bill (Betsy) Ison of Crandon; and Martha ( Stan) Ison-Kocos of Fond du Lac; eight grandchildren: Timi (John) Eckes, David G. Haakenson, Teri (Steve) Lord, Susan (Brent) Honadel, Dan (Donna) Haakenson, Wesley Ison, Rhonda (Ray) Krueger and Michael (Kristin) Rens. She is further survived by step-grandchildren Nathan Schmidt, Megan (Zak) Spurgeon, Michelle Schmidt, Katherine (Jody) Jaeger and Jean (Clyde) Moench. Glade was also proud of her great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren: Katie Wormuth, Lyndsey Haakenson, Daniel Haakenson, Gracie Krueger, Ryleigh Krueger, Paige Jaeger, Jonah Jaeger, Brandon Moench and Ethan Moench. Glade is also survived by her sisters Brade Tyler, Betty (David) Meyer, her sister-in-law, Sharon Quesinberry, daughter-in-law Diane Ison, step-sister-in-law, Janice Ison, and her nieces, nephews, cousins, and very special friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garland, her parents; brothers, Cecil, Verl, and Wendell Quesinberry; sister, Thelma Quesinberry; grandson, Randy Ison; and son-in-law, Cal Rens.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 8 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon at Praise Chapel Community Church, Crandon with funeral services to follow at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery. Weber Hill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the Crandon Rescue Squad or Crandon Nursing Home Staff Sunshine Fund.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at the Crandon Nursing Home, and to those who took the time to visit and cheer her up, especially during her final months.
Do not sadly look upon my body, eroded from the effects of time and infirmity. Look instead into my soul, where I still love, and remember, and laugh and dance, and take on the world – for it is there that I remain forever young. – MIK 2010
