Edward “Eddie” J. Penasa, age 89, Newald, passed away April 18, 2010 under the care of Ministry Homecare and Hospice at Friendly Village, Rhinelander. He was born February 25, 1921 in Gile, Wisconsin the son of the late Jacob and Esther (Barto) Penasa.
Eddie served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII; he fought at the Battle of the Bulge. On April 13, 1940, he married Doris Sheldon; she preceded him in death on January 26, 1981. Eddie married Jean VanPrice in Crandon on June 26, 1985.
Through life, he held various positions at the county and town government level; County Board for 29 years, Town Chairman for the Town of Ross and Town Supervisor for the Town of Ross. Eddie enjoyed fishing, but his favorite activity was dancing. He was a member of the VFW Cook-Elfors Post #6823 and the DAV.
Eddie was a hard worker and it showed by working at Connors Wood Industries for 19 years as well as operating Penasa’s Bar at the sametime. He owned and operated Penasa’s Bar in Newald for 48 years. Eddie was a great business man because he could put a name with each face that came into his bar. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Jean of Wausau

Preceded in death by his parents; Jacob and Esther, first wife; Doris, brothers; Pete and Jimmy and great-grandson; David.
Pallbearers will be Dennis “DJ’ Penasa, Jacob Krawze, Gregory VanPrice, Josh Dutton, Mark Roffers and Terry Howen.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 21 from 4-8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday, April 22 from 10-11:00 a.m. at St. Leonard Catholic Church, Laona. Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father John Cerkas officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the VFW Cook-Elfors Post #6823. Eddie’s Family would like to send a special thank you to the NuRoc Nursing Home and staff, St. Mary’s Hospital 3rd Floor staff, the staff at Friendly Village and the Nurse from Ministry Homecare and Hospice for the wonderful care and support they gave through their husband, father and grandfather’s illness.
