Shirley M. Kornetzke (nee Klaves), Townsend, loving daughter, mother and wife passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, April 30, 2010 at the St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay. She was born on August 15, 1935 in Sheboygan, WI to the late Roland and Edna (Wagner) Klaves of Howards Grove, WI.
Shirley was united in marriage to Kenneth C. Kornetzke on May 16, 1959 at Trinity Lutheran Church in the Town of Herman, WI. After graduating from Howards Grove School in 1953, she worked for a short while at Heritage Insurance in Franklin, WI. As she did with everything in life, she felt the calling to help others and went to work as a nurse’s aide at the Sheboygan Memorial Hospital. Shirley then received a scholarship to further her training and received her RN Degree; while continuing to work at Sheboygan Memorial Hospital. After retiring in 1996, Ken and she moved to Townsend, WI on the Townsend Flowage.
Shirley was a Sunday School Teacher and sang in the Choir at Trinity Lutheran Church in Howards Grove and later was a member of the Sheboygan County Lutheran Chorus. She attended St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Sheboygan; where she served as the chairman of the board of education. After moving to Townsend, Shirley became an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and was a member of the Ladies Aide and was the Secretary for the building addition. She continued her gift of helping others as a past member of the McCaslin Lionesses. When Shirley wasn’t helping others; she enjoyed traveling, bowling, golf and Bingo. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 50 years, Kenneth Kornetzke of Townsend, 2 daughters, Cheryl (Theodore) Kissel of Ramsey, New Jersey and KellyJo (Michael) Rawden of Bartlett, Illinois; 5 grandchildren, Kathryn, Julia and Megan Kissel and Emily and Daniel Rawden.
She is further survived by her sisters Diane (Glen) Reyer of the town of Mose and Joyce (Jerome) Bawden of Sheboygan, Wisconsin as well as numerous nieces, nephews other friends and relatives.
Visitation will on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 from 9-11:00 a.m. at the St. John Lutheran Church, Townsend. Funeral services will at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Stephen Mueller officiating. She will be laid to rest in Forest Home Cemetery in Townsend, Wisconsin. Weber-Hill Funeral Home, Wabeno (715) 473-3131 is assisting the family with the arrangements.
